Garden Shack Farmers Market

Garden Shack Farm will be hosting a farmers market every Thursday in April through November, 2 pm - 6 pm. Local vendors will be offering fresh produce, eggs, dairy products, flowers, herbs, juices, hoView Moreney, coffee, meats, and locally created baked goods, craft items, and wood projects. In addition, Sussex County Mobile Library will be on site every third Thursday beginning April 7 with story time, craft time, and library book checkouts. SUP for Pups - Update

Delmarva Board Sport Adventures (DBSA), the area’s original and leading paddle board adventure company, is excited to announce its second annual SUP for Pups Event with sponsor proceeds and donationView Mores benefitting the Delaware SPCA. This event is free to the public and will take place at Milton Memorial Park on Saturday, 4 June, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (rain date is 5 June). This event is for dog lovers and people who love to paddleboard or would like to try the sport. DBSA will hook attendees up with all the gear and a coach to get them started with paddle boarding! This is a great way to try something new, support the pups at the Delaware SPCA and meet with local vendors all in one place. Pup attendance is not required to SUP at this event. The SPCA will have dogs available for petting and adoption! Delmarva Board Sport Adventures and the Delaware SPCA are currently seeking booth sponsors to support this fun and furry event. The Gold Bone booths are already sold out and feature three fabulous companies serving Sussex County - Get Your Wag On, Concord Pet Food and Supplies and PHOTO:ography, but there are Silver Bone booths still available! Between October 2014 through September 2015, Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth served 104,969 nutritious meals to 326 homebound citizens in Eastern Sussex County. Volunteers gave 9,064 hours of their time and drove 87,000 miles to make meal deliveries. There were 465 outreach visits made by MOW Lewes/Rehoboth staff, resulting in 30 people receiving emergency assistance (over and above food delivery) and 128 people being counseled by a registered dietition. Over 100 teams are expected to express their artistic flair. Past creations have included Swamp Animals, Mermaids, Pyramids, Crabs, Dolphins, Sharks and of course traditional sandcastles. Beachgoers who would rather watch than work are welcome to view the incredible creations free of charge. RBDBCC Business Members are encouraged to compete in the business category, represent your company in the sand!  Entries will be judged on “Structural Engineering,” “Use of Materials,” “Imagination,”, “Overall Aesthetic Appeal”, as well as “Representation of Business.”  The winning business will receive a trophy and bragging rights for the entire year! JUDGING & ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS Begins at 3:00 PM; judges are volunteers for the RBDBCC.  Winners will be announced at approximately 5:00 PM. PRIZES Prizes will be awarded to the top 10 Judge’s Favorites in both the adult and 7-14 child divisions. 1 Judge’s Favorite will be awarded in the Business category. Special awards given to all participants in the 6 & under child’s division. People’s Choice Awards – Two People’s Chioce Awards will be given during this year’s contest. The general public can vote on their favorite ADULT and CHILD division creation, by completing an event evaluation. All regular contest rules apply. RULES Participants will be divided into four divisions: Business, Adult (15 and older), Child 7-14, and Child 6 and under. There is no limit to the number of participants per team.  Participants may not be on multiple teams. Piles of sand must be formed by manpower only.  Mechanized assistance is not allowed. To be judged, creations must be built within placed “Feather” flag boundaries (pictured to right). The sand sculptures must contain only objects natural to the beach (shells, stones, seaweed, etc.) Participants must stay away from the dunes and dune grass. Sculptures may not be dampened or sprayed with any solutions other than water.  In other words:  NO STICKY STUFF! Sculptures must be finished by 3:00 PM.   WEATHER DEPENDENT The event is WEATHER DEPENDENT.  In the event of bad weather, set up and registration may be delayed up until 10:30 AM.  If bad weather continues, the event will be postponed until the following year.  If bad weather occurs during the contest, participants may continue at will or at the discretion of lifeguards.  Judging may be cancelled at anytime if warranted by current weather conditions.View Less
