As WWII looms in England, a wealthy widow (Carey Mulligan) retains the services of an amateur archaeologist (Ralph Fiennes) to excavate the earthen mounds on her estate. When they make an extremely important historical discovery it attracts the attention of a Cambridge University archaeologist and his colleagues who seize the site.
