Dave was a proud Dewey Beach homeowner who passed away suddenly of an undiagnosed cardiac arrhythmia just before his 29th birthday. His compassion for others and his desire to live life to the fullest made a lasting impression on everyone he met. His family and friends would like to create a means to spread awareness about the risks of irregular heartbeat, support the DE beach community by donating defibrillator machines and associated training, and hands only CPR education to community organizations and small businesses.

Previous year’s donations, sponsorships and race proceeds were earmarked for the Dewey Beach Beautification Project. A land parcel located on the bay side of Bellevue St. (across from Dave’s home) was chosen as the location of a paved sitting area that includes 2 park benches and a memorial plaque with information about sudden cardiac arrest. Hopefully everyone can visit and enjoy the site on race day!

Last year’s race enabled us to donate 9 AED machines to local businesses and police. Since the Starboard restaurant installed an AED last year, 3 lives were saved.
